Going Out on a Limb Here

The last time I held a car loan bill in my hands, it said I had one payment remaining. Fair enough, says I, I have to make one more payment. Logical, no? So the other day I get an envelope from good old Toyota and I open it up and there it is, the title to the car. So I'm assuming at this point the one payment remaining was the one in my hands that last time. I mean, technically, given the new circumstances I have to assume that once I made that last payment there were zero payments remaining, if you want to think of it that way. But I suppose if you send people one last bill that says there are zero payments remaining, lots of them will say "Goodie!" and not pay that last one. People are optimists, including me, and will tend to put the most favorable construction on things. It does seem to me that this could be made clearer—honestly, I thought I had one more payment—but then again, I've never run a car company and at this point probably never will, so maybe it's harder than I suppose to make things clear on a car payment bill.
