Writing Advice I Won't Be Following

Awesome journalist James Fallows notes awesome-at-everything Michael Crichton's death in an interesting appreciation today. In it he mentions that Crichton "removed complications from his life while writing by having exactly the same food at every meal, so he never had to waste time deciding what to eat." Personally I don't spend that much time deciding what to eat most days. I enjoy variety. And I like to write about food, so you can see this just isn't going to work for me.

To be honest, Fallows says that Crichton said he did that. It could have been a joke, I suppose. But maybe not. Crichton was married five times, which suggests that he had to cut down on complications wherever he could.
