Hitting Rock Bottom

Sometimes you're brought up short by some little thing that lets you see what a pretty pass you've come to. Waking up in the drunk tank would be such an experience, I suppose. (I suppose that, OK?) But it was brought home to me today that I really have gotten out of the habit of entertaining at home. The Great Cleanup continues apace, and having dug my living room furniture out from under a decomposing mass of printed matter, I've been working on the dining room table. This morning I picked up an L.L. Bean catalog, a holiday shopping one, as it happened. "Guide to Christmas Gifts," it said on the top left, and then there was a line, a "rule," as graphic designers say, and then a number, which was 2007. Sigh! But after all, better late than never, right?
