Things I'm Not Blogging About
I'm not blogging about this—I'm just, you know, saying. But I was at my
sister's house for Father's Day, and the mom and the dad went home and
I stayed for my obligatory shot of cable TV. I watched cops arresting
people for a while. The people would argue that they hadn't done
anything, although they had. Then they would cry. This began to pall on
us, began to seem a little depressing, actually. So my brother-in-law
switched to this show you've heard of, "Jackass," and the name of the
show is apt and appropriate, although those qualities pretty much begin
and end with the name. The part I watched consisted of a dwarf with his
pants pulled down to expose his butt repeatedly hopping onto an
electrified stool, being shocked, and hopping off again. There were a
bunch of other guys in the room—not dwarves, at least not
physically—and they would laugh hysterically every time. The shocking
and hopping happened about three or four times before I decided it was
time to go home. I didn't have cable TV at home but somehow that wasn't
a problem—seemed like a feature more than a bug, actually.
So that's why I mostly don't blog about TV. Also Jon & Kate plus 8—nothing much to say about them either. A few weeks ago, as all the brouhaha began to brew, I saw a reference to "Jon and Kate" on a magazine in the supermarket. I had no idea who these people were but I was pretty sure I wouldn't be elevating them to my personal pantheon of heroes once I did know, and I checked them out and that's pretty much how it went.
Nope, I'd rather blog about things I find amusing or interesting or beautiful. Some people just make you feel better about life, don't they? Like this mechanic who's got a gas station on the north end of town here. He's a good mechanic and fun to talk with. Last time I was there he promised to get right to work on the car by saying, "We'll sally forth!" That amused me for hours afterward in a way that applying an electric shock to the nether regions of a dwarf probably never will. And so that's what I'm blogging about for today.
Otherwise, gang, just working on fiddly stuff, trying to get through the day, like everyone else. As soon as I discover more amusing, interesting, or beautiful things I'll slap them up on the wall here so stop by often.
